There are many different functional fillers used. Fillers can be natural or synthetic and influence many properties in polymers, surface coatings and sealants. At Bjørn Thorsen, we work with carefully selected specialties to add functionality to our customer’s systems.
Synthetic Barium Sulphate is a high purity additive with superior opacity and increased whiteness. This fine functional filler adds several benefits on its own, in combination with TiO2 or colored pigments.
Natural Barium Sulphate is an ultra-fine natural barium with high whiteness. It provides elevated opacity and good chemical resistance.
FMO or pyrogenic silica are often used as reinforcement fillers or as rheology modifiers, giving a thixotropic flow to Sealants and Adhesives or Surface Coatings. Fumed Silica are hydrophilic or hydrophobic depending on surface treatment.
