ENGINEERING PLASTICS

Chemical and heat resistance, high stiffness and transparency, superior impact and scratch resistance are just some of the benefits engineering plastics bring. Engineering plastics are a group of plastic materials that have higher mechanical and thermal properties than the more widely used commodity plastics (such as polystyrene, PVC, polypropylene and polyethylene). Engineering plastics have gradually replaced traditional engineering materials such as wood or metal in many applications, being much easier to manufacture, especially in complicated shapes. In addition, they are recyclable.

ABS

Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) is a type of engineering plastics, which is typically used for car bumpers, dashboard trim and toy bricks. They display high impact resistance and toughness.

Polycarbonate

Polycarbonates used in engineering are strong, tough materials, and some grades are optically transparent. They are easily worked, molded and thermoformed. Because of these properties, polycarbonates find many applications, like motorcycle helmets and optical discs. Our portfolio entails PC compounds from Geba Kunststofkemi and they can be pre-colored and based on recycled raw materials.

PC/ABS

We offer PC/ABS compounds from Geba for applications where properties of neat PC is not required, but where pure ABS would not offer sufficient properties. Geba’s PC/ABS compounds can be recolored, glass filled, flame retardant as well as partly recycled.

Polyamides (Nylons)

Polyamides or nylons (Promyde® PA6 from Nurel and Polyamid PA4.6 / PA6 / PA66 / PA11 / PA12 from Geba) are the largest family of engineering plastics with a very wide range of applications. Polyamides or nylons are resistant to wear and abrasion. They have good mechanical properties even at elevated temperatures, have low permeability to gases and good chemical resistance.
