Earlier this year, Sun Chemical obtained the prestigious ECO PASSPORT by OEKO-TEX® certification for a selected range of pigments, which is a testimony to the company’s commitment to environmental stewardship and product safety.
Achieving ZDHC (Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals) Level 3 accreditation, the highest level possible by the ZDHC Foundation, underscores Sun Chemical’s dedication to phasing out hazardous chemicals in the textile/apparel value chains. The ECO PASSPORT certification process involves rigorous testing of textile and leather chemicals for harmful substances, as well as evaluating the ecological integrity of the chemical manufacturer. The process includes a CAS number screening, an analytical laboratory text, a self-assessment and an on-site visit.
“Sun Chemical is the first pigment manufacturer world-wide to achieve the ECO PASSPORT by OEKO-TEX® with ZDHC Level 3 conformance and it means that our chemical formulation would always conform with ZDHC latest standards for safer products,” said Dr. Christof Kujat, Global Head Industry Segment Plastics, Color Materials at Sun Chemical.
Initiated in 2020, this certification process highlights Sun Chemical’s ongoing dedication to environmental progress and sets the stage for future certifications aimed at advancing the sustainability of their products and the markets they serve. It aligns with Sun Chemical’s commitment to promoting environmentally friendly products and supports the EU Strategy for Sustainable and Circular Textiles by facilitating the separate collection of textile waste by the start of 2025.
