BYK has recently enlarged its product offering with three new associative thickeners: RHEOBYK-7650, RHEOBYK-7670, and RHEOBYK-7690. The products will be unveiled to the public for the first time at European Coatings Show (ECS) 2023 and they are already available in the distribution portfolio of Bjørn Thorsen in Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Iceland.
Challenges of typical associative thickeners
Associative thickeners are typically offered as aqueous solutions and require the addition of a number of raw materials, including biocides that prevent microbial contamination. The case is different with solid associative thickeners which usually come in powder form. The drawback of their being powdery, however, is that dust is released during processing, so that increased occupational safety measures, such as the use of dust masks, may be required.
Better results with RHEOBYK-7650, RHEOBYK-7670, and RHEOBYK-7690
New associative thickeners from BYK solve many of the above-mentioned problems. Based on hydrophobically modified ethylene oxide urethane (HEUR) technology for aqueous systems, all three products are solid additives in a unique delivery form, with excellent storage stability. They are supplied as flakes, which prevent dust formation and can still be perfectly incorporated directly or via a pregel. By using the new associative thickeners, the rheology can be adjusted over the entire shear range, from low to high shear levels.
Applications of new associative thickeners from BYK
RHEOBYK-7650, RHEOBYK-7670, and RHEOBYK-7690 are recommended for use in a wide range of coatings applications as well as in adhesives and sealants.
RHEOBYK-7650, RHEOBYK-7670, and RHEOBYK-7690 at ECS 2023
These new products will be demonstrated to the public for the first time at ECS 2023 where they will be on display at the BYK booth 124 in Hall 3A, as well as in an official product presentation within the exhibition complex. ECS is the leading European fair for coatings, paintings, adhesives and sealants, set to take place on March 28-30, in Nuremberg, Germany.
